Overview

Microsoft is hiring a Senior Data Scientist to advance adaptive threat detection and improve service reliability. You'll work with Python, machine learning, and Azure to design models that detect and mitigate abusive patterns in real time.

Job Description

Who you are

You have 5+ years of experience in data science, with a strong background in building and deploying machine learning models. You are proficient in Python and have a solid understanding of data analysis techniques, enabling you to extract insights from large datasets. Your experience includes working with SQL for data manipulation and querying, and you are familiar with cloud platforms, particularly Azure, for deploying data-driven solutions. You are passionate about improving customer safety and service reliability through innovative data solutions.

You possess strong problem-solving skills and can think critically about complex data challenges. You have experience in feature engineering and signal design, allowing you to create robust models that effectively detect and mitigate threats. Your ability to communicate findings clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders makes you an effective collaborator within cross-functional teams.

Desirable

Experience with real-time data processing and anomaly detection is a plus. Familiarity with threat detection methodologies and security practices will enhance your contributions to the team. You are also encouraged to bring any experience with big data technologies or frameworks that can help scale data science efforts.

What you'll do

In this role, you will lead end-to-end data science efforts, focusing on adaptive threat detection and resilience of origin services. You will design models that learn from authentication and access signals to automatically reject malicious activities while minimizing false positives. Your work will involve diving into terabytes of data to understand evolving threat landscapes and turning raw signals into production-ready detections.

You will collaborate closely with engineering teams to implement your models in real-time systems, ensuring that they operate effectively at scale. Your responsibilities will include conducting experiments to evaluate model performance and iterating on your designs based on feedback and results. You will also be involved in identifying and throttling anomalous traffic surges to protect upstream services from degradation.

What we offer

Microsoft provides a dynamic work environment where you can contribute to meaningful projects that impact millions of users. You will have access to cutting-edge technologies and the opportunity to work with a talented team of professionals dedicated to enhancing security and user experience. We encourage you to apply even if your experience doesn't match every requirement, as we value diverse perspectives and backgrounds in our team.
