Relativity is seeking a Manager of Vehicle Mechanisms Engineering to lead the design, build, and test lifecycle of the Terran R vehicle's integrated structures and flight mechanisms. You'll work closely with cross-functional teams to solve complex engineering challenges. This role requires strong mechanical engineering expertise.

Job Description

Who you are

You have a strong background in mechanical engineering, with experience in designing and testing complex systems — your expertise allows you to tackle challenges that require innovative solutions. You thrive in collaborative environments, working closely with cross-functional teams to ensure that all aspects of the vehicle mechanisms are integrated seamlessly. Your problem-solving skills are top-notch, and you enjoy taking ownership of hardware projects from concept through to execution.

You understand the intricacies of vehicle mechanisms and have a proven track record of delivering high-quality engineering solutions — your experience includes hands-on work with hardware, allowing you to see the tangible results of your efforts. You are passionate about aerospace engineering and are excited about the opportunity to contribute to groundbreaking projects that push the boundaries of technology.

You possess excellent communication skills, enabling you to articulate complex engineering concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders — you know how to foster collaboration and drive consensus among diverse teams. Your leadership style is inclusive, and you are committed to mentoring and developing the next generation of engineers.

Desirable

Experience with rocket or aerospace vehicle design is a plus, as is familiarity with iterative design processes — you are comfortable working in fast-paced environments where adaptability is key. A background in project management or team leadership will help you excel in this role, as you will be responsible for guiding your team through the engineering lifecycle.

What you'll do

As the Manager of Vehicle Mechanisms Engineering, you will lead the Structures and Mechanisms team responsible for the full design, build, and test lifecycle of the Terran R vehicle's integrated structures and flight mechanisms. You will oversee the development of innovative mechanisms that meet the rigorous demands of space travel, ensuring that all designs are optimized for performance and reliability.

You will collaborate with propulsion, manufacturing, software, and avionics teams to integrate various systems into the vehicle — your role will involve coordinating efforts across disciplines to ensure that all components work together harmoniously. You will also be responsible for establishing best practices in design and testing, fostering a culture of continuous improvement within your team.

Your leadership will be crucial in driving the team's success, as you will mentor engineers and help them grow in their careers — you will conduct regular one-on-one meetings to provide feedback and support their professional development. You will also be involved in strategic planning, helping to define the team's goals and objectives in alignment with the company's mission.

What we offer

At Relativity, you will be part of a pioneering team that is redefining the future of aerospace — you will have the opportunity to work on cutting-edge technology that has the potential to change the world. We offer a competitive salary range of $185,000—$204,000 USD, along with comprehensive benefits that support your well-being and professional growth.

You will enjoy a collaborative and inclusive work environment where your contributions are valued — we believe that diverse teams drive innovation and success. Join us in our mission to build rockets that serve today's needs and tomorrow's breakthroughs, and leave your mark on the future of space exploration.
