Overview

Affirm is seeking a Staff Site Reliability Engineer to enhance application reliability and performance. You'll work with AWS, Docker, and Kubernetes to implement best practices in reliability engineering. This role requires extensive experience in SRE and distributed systems.

Job Description

Who you are

You have a strong background in Site Reliability Engineering with at least 5 years of experience in building and maintaining reliable systems. Your expertise in AWS and Kubernetes allows you to design scalable and resilient architectures that support high availability and performance. You are proficient in Linux and have a solid understanding of containerization technologies like Docker, which you use to streamline deployment processes and enhance system reliability.

Your programming skills in Python enable you to automate tasks and develop tools that improve operational efficiency. You have hands-on experience with incident management processes, ensuring that you can effectively respond to and resolve outages while minimizing impact on users. Your knowledge of observability practices allows you to implement monitoring solutions that provide visibility into system performance and health, helping teams proactively address issues before they affect customers.

You are familiar with configuration management tools and have experience managing distributed systems, which equips you to handle the complexities of modern cloud environments. You thrive in collaborative settings, engaging with engineering teams to guide them in best practices for operating applications and driving a culture of reliability across the organization.

Desirable

Experience with chaos engineering and load testing is a plus, as it demonstrates your commitment to building resilient systems. Familiarity with service level objectives (SLOs) and service level agreements (SLAs) will help you contribute to defining performance metrics that align with business goals.

What you'll do

In this role, you will be responsible for enhancing the reliability of Affirm's applications by implementing best practices in Site Reliability Engineering. You will work closely with engineering teams to define and monitor service level objectives, ensuring that applications meet performance and availability standards. Your role will involve driving the incident management process, analyzing incidents to identify root causes, and implementing solutions to prevent recurrence.

You will engage in architectural discussions, providing insights on how to improve system design for reliability and scalability. Your expertise will guide teams in adopting observability and alerting configurations that enhance their ability to monitor application performance effectively. You will also lead initiatives to improve change management and deployment practices, ensuring that releases are smooth and do not disrupt service.

As a seasoned engineer, you will mentor junior team members, sharing your knowledge of best practices in reliability engineering and fostering a culture of continuous improvement. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop tooling that supports operational excellence and enhances the overall customer experience.

What we offer

At Affirm, we are committed to creating a supportive and inclusive work environment. We offer competitive compensation packages, including salary and benefits that reflect your skills and experience. You will have the opportunity to work remotely, allowing for flexibility in your work-life balance. Our culture encourages innovation and collaboration, providing you with the resources and support needed to excel in your role. Join us in our mission to reinvent credit and make it more honest and friendly for consumers.
