Job Description

Who you are

You have extensive experience in machine learning and data engineering, with a strong background in building scalable systems that process large datasets. You understand the intricacies of data ingestion from various sources and can transform unstructured data into actionable insights. Your technical skills include proficiency in programming languages commonly used in ML, and you are comfortable working with cloud-based platforms for data storage and processing.

You thrive in collaborative environments and enjoy working closely with product and engineering teams to develop innovative solutions that drive business outcomes. You are detail-oriented and have a knack for debugging complex systems, ensuring that the data pipelines you build are robust and efficient. You are also passionate about the startup ecosystem and understand the challenges and opportunities that come with it.

Desirable

Experience with tools and frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, or similar is a plus. Familiarity with data visualization tools and techniques will help you communicate insights effectively to stakeholders. A background in venture capital or finance can provide valuable context to your work, allowing you to align your technical efforts with business goals.

What you'll do

As a Staff ML Engineer at Harmonic, you will play a pivotal role in enhancing our discovery engine by developing and optimizing machine learning models that analyze and evaluate startup data. You will work on sourcing and ingesting data from a variety of fragmented and unstructured sources, transforming it into structured insights that can be easily searched and analyzed. Your contributions will directly impact how venture capital firms discover and evaluate investment opportunities.

You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product managers and data scientists, to define the requirements for new features and enhancements. Your role will involve designing experiments to test the effectiveness of different algorithms and approaches, ensuring that the solutions you implement are both effective and scalable.

In addition to your technical responsibilities, you will mentor junior engineers and contribute to the overall growth of the engineering team. You will participate in code reviews and provide constructive feedback to help your peers improve their skills and deliver high-quality work.
