Job Description

Who you are

As the General Counsel at Cuningham, you will serve as the chief legal advisor, providing strategic and practical legal guidance that supports the firm’s business operations and growth initiatives. You will partner closely with executive leadership and the Board of Directors to navigate complex legal, regulatory, and governance matters. Your role will be crucial in enabling sound, informed business decisions that align with Cuningham’s objectives and values. You should have a strong understanding of enterprise risk management and the ability to provide legal insights that support a national, multi-state professional services organization.

You will be expected to have a comprehensive understanding of the legal landscape affecting the design and construction industry. This includes familiarity with contracts, compliance, and regulatory issues that may impact the firm’s operations. Your experience should reflect a proven ability to manage legal risks while facilitating business growth and innovation. You will also need to demonstrate excellent communication skills, as you will be working closely with various stakeholders, including senior management and external legal advisors.

Desirable

Experience in the design and construction sector is highly desirable, as is a background in corporate governance and risk management. Familiarity with multi-state legal issues will be beneficial, as you will be advising on matters that span across different jurisdictions. A proactive approach to problem-solving and the ability to think strategically about legal issues in a business context will set you apart in this role.

What you'll do

In your role as General Counsel, you will be responsible for providing legal advice on a wide range of issues that affect the firm’s operations. This includes drafting and reviewing contracts, advising on compliance with applicable laws and regulations, and managing disputes that may arise in the course of business. You will also play a key role in developing and implementing policies and procedures that promote legal compliance and mitigate risk.

You will work closely with the executive team to support business initiatives and strategic planning. This may involve conducting legal research, analyzing potential legal risks associated with new projects, and advising on the legal implications of business decisions. Your insights will be critical in shaping the firm’s approach to governance and compliance, ensuring that all operations align with legal requirements and best practices.

Additionally, you will be involved in training and educating staff on legal matters, fostering a culture of compliance within the organization. You will also liaise with external legal counsel as needed, ensuring that the firm has access to the necessary legal expertise to navigate complex issues effectively.

What we offer

Cuningham offers a hybrid work environment, allowing you to balance remote work with in-office collaboration. You will be part of a dynamic team that values legal expertise and strategic thinking.
