Job Description

Join the Worldwide Sustainability (WWS) organization where we capitalize on our size, scale, and inventive culture to build a more resilient and sustainable company. WWS manages our social and environmental impacts globally, driving solutions that enable our customers, businesses, and the world around us to become more sustainable.

Amazon co-founded The Climate Pledge, our commitment to reach net-zero carbon across our global operations by 2040. As part of the Worldwide Environment team, Amazon's Worldwide Carbon team is dedicated to working across the company with our business units to make operational changes to accelerate solutions and decarbonize our businesses in service of The Climate Pledge.

We are seeking a self-starter to join the Worldwide Sustainability Carbon Neutralization team in pioneering the future of carbon removal. The Senior Portfolio Manager for Carbon Removal Technology will work in an integrated team to develop and execute the strategy by which Amazon delivers carbon removal projects globally with leading technology and project developers.

The Senior Portfolio Manager will manage multiple, large scale and technically complex carbon removal projects across multiple geographies by facilitating close collaboration between internal and external stakeholders. Within the overarching strategy, this individual must be resilient and creative in exploring and discovering new opportunities, and ultimately converting them into executable carbon removal projects to advance the most scalable and sustainable carbon removal technologies.

This position will collaborate closely with our internal science teams as well as external scientists in leading universities and technology developers. The Senior Portfolio Manager will be responsible for commercializing a science-based quality bar in carbon removal technology segments.

The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in developing and delivering on innovative projects in the carbon removal, energy, or sustainability spaces in ambiguous environments. Prior knowledge of carbon removal and carbon markets is preferred. Importantly, the right candidate must have a demonstrated ability to think strategically about the business, operations, and technical challenges, with the skill-set to drive the execution of project schedules, contracts, initiatives and team goals.

Key job responsibilities
- Lead strategic initiatives to sustainably scale carbon removal technology, supporting Amazon’s broader carbon neutralization strategy and objectives.
- Build and implement mechanisms for efficiently sourcing and conducting technical diligence for carbon removal projects, and monitoring performance of portfolio projects.
- Build consensus around a strategic approach to carbon removal segments with internal Amazon teams across many functional areas.
- Build relationships with senior leaders in carbon removal technology developers and research institutes.
