Microsoft is hiring a Principal Data Engineer for the CoreAI team to shape the data and analytics foundations for AI platforms. You'll design and optimize large-scale data pipelines and architectures. This role requires extensive experience in data engineering and architecture.
You have a strong background in data engineering with a focus on building scalable and reliable data architectures — your experience includes defining end-to-end data and analytics architecture for large-scale platforms. You are a senior technical leader who influences multi-team roadmaps and sets engineering standards that ensure secure and efficient analytics for AI-driven products.
Your expertise in designing and optimizing large-scale data pipelines is complemented by your proficiency in ETL/ELT workflows — you understand the intricacies of data processing and have a proven track record of developing robust data solutions that support analytics initiatives. You are committed to fostering an inclusive work environment and value diverse perspectives, which enhances your ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
You possess a growth mindset and are driven by the mission to empower organizations through data — your technical leadership is matched by your ability to mentor and guide junior engineers, helping them grow in their careers. You thrive in environments where innovation is encouraged, and you actively seek out opportunities to improve processes and technologies.
Experience with cloud platforms, particularly Azure, is a significant advantage — familiarity with data analytics tools and frameworks will further enhance your ability to contribute to the CoreAI team. You are also open to learning new technologies and methodologies that can improve data engineering practices.
In this role, you will own and define the data and analytics architecture for Microsoft’s CoreAI and Foundry platforms — your responsibilities will include setting long-term technical direction for scalable and cost-effective analytics that support AI workloads. You will design, build, and optimize large-scale data pipelines that are robust and efficient, ensuring they meet the needs of various analytics initiatives.
You will collaborate closely with other teams to influence product roadmaps and ensure that engineering standards are met across the board — your role will require you to communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders, ensuring alignment and understanding throughout the organization. You will also be responsible for developing and extending scalable ETL/ELT workflows, ensuring data quality and reliability.
Your contributions will directly impact the success of Microsoft’s AI platforms, enabling teams to leverage data effectively for decision-making and product development — you will be at the forefront of shaping how data is utilized across the organization. You will also have the opportunity to mentor junior engineers, sharing your knowledge and experience to help them develop their skills and advance their careers.
Microsoft offers a collaborative and inclusive work environment where you can thrive — you will have access to resources and support that enable you to innovate and grow in your role. The company is committed to empowering every person and organization on the planet, and you will play a key role in realizing this mission through your work in data engineering.
You will be part of a team that values respect, integrity, and accountability, creating a culture where everyone can contribute and succeed — your work will have a meaningful impact on the future of AI and data analytics at Microsoft. Competitive compensation and benefits are part of the package, reflecting the value placed on your expertise and contributions.
