Job Description

Are you excited to lead a team that builds the customer-facing experience for Amazon Deals and the intelligent automation behind it? Do you want to own services that are used by millions of customers every day? The Deals & Promotions team is at the center of Amazon's retail business, and we are on a mission to create a world-class deals experience for our customers. We are building the future where AI and automation help us discover, curate, and present the best offers, and we are looking for a hands-on leader to help us get there.

As a Software Development Manager, you will lead a dedicated "two-pizza team" of 8-12 talented Software Development Engineers (SDEs). Your team will have end-to-end ownership of critical components of the Amazon Deals experience, from the customer-facing features to the backend services and automation that bring them to life. You will be responsible for the delivery, operational excellence, and technical direction of your team. In partnership with product managers and designers, you will define and deliver on a roadmap that directly impacts our customers and internal business users. We are looking for a deeply technical, customer-obsessed leader who is passionate about building scalable systems and growing a high-performing engineering team.

Key job responsibilities
- Hire, coach, and mentor a team of high-performing software engineers, supporting their career growth and development.
- Manage the end-to-end software development lifecycle, including project planning, execution, and the successful, on-time delivery of your team's roadmap.
- Own the operational excellence of your team's services, ensuring they are scalable, reliable, and performant for millions of customers.
- Drive the technical direction for your team, influencing software architecture and design choices to build for the long term.
- Partner closely with stakeholders, including product managers, designers, and other engineering teams, to build a cohesive and innovative customer experience.
- Dive deep into technical details while providing high-level leadership and vision for your team.
- Champion the application of new technologies, including exploring how AI Agents and Generative AI can be integrated into your services to automate promotional workflows.- 3+ years of engineering team management experience
- 7+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience
- 3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience
- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
- Experience partnering with product or program management teams- Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
- Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers

The base salary for this position ranges from $171,400/year up to $286,200/year. Salary is based on a number of factors and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
