Overview

Google is hiring a Data Center Technician to perform assembly and troubleshooting of technical equipment. You'll work with operating systems, computer/server hardware, and networking protocols in Kansas City. This role requires experience in IT support and physical capability to handle equipment.

Job Description

Who you are

You have experience with the assembly of mechanical or electrical systems, or performing component-level repairs and troubleshooting on technical equipment. You are skilled in diagnosing and troubleshooting operating systems, computer/server hardware, or networking protocols. You possess the physical capability to lift and move equipment weighing up to 50lb (23kg) and can exert yourself physically over extended periods, including frequent bending, kneeling, climbing, pushing/pulling, and lifting. You are flexible with your schedule and can work non-standard hours, including weekends, night shifts, and holidays as required.

You hold a Bachelor's degree or have equivalent practical experience. You have completed the online Google IT Support Professional Certificate program and have at least 2 years of experience diagnosing and troubleshooting operating systems and computer/server hardware or networking protocols. You have experience performing component-level repairs and troubleshooting on IT equipment or in a similar role, such as Systems Administration, Network Deployment Engineer, or Help Desk Technician. You have worked within a data center or network operation center environment and can collaborate and partner with teams to overcome challenges while adapting to changes in a dynamic work environment.

What you'll do

As a Data Center Technician at Google, you will be responsible for installing, configuring, and testing equipment in the data center. You will monitor the state-of-the-art physical infrastructure that supports Google's powerful search technology. You will handle security issues, ensuring that data is properly erased in accordance with Google security standards. You will disassemble specific equipment that has reached its end-of-life via part replacement or maintenance, working in a team setting. Your role will involve repairing, fixing, and performing preventative maintenance on equipment, servers, machines, or infrastructure based on identified issues with defined solutions and limited guidance.

You will collaborate with other technicians and engineers to ensure the smooth operation of the data center. You will be expected to maintain a high level of attention to detail while working on complex systems and will be involved in troubleshooting and resolving technical issues as they arise. You will also participate in ongoing training and development opportunities to enhance your skills and knowledge in the field.
