Affirm is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to join their Servicing International team. You'll focus on building scalable solutions for purchase protection, collaborating closely with global engineering teams. This role requires expertise in Java and Spring.
You have 5+ years of backend engineering experience, particularly in building production systems that scale effectively. You’ve owned services from design through deployment and have navigated the complexities of debugging distributed systems. Your technical expertise includes deep knowledge of Java and Spring, and you have a strong understanding of REST API design principles. You thrive in collaborative environments, working closely with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality solutions. You are passionate about creating user-centric experiences and understand the importance of trust and satisfaction in the customer journey. You are comfortable leading teams through ambiguity, ensuring that everyone is supported and aligned towards common goals.
Experience with international markets or global product launches would be a plus. Familiarity with agile methodologies and tools for project management can enhance your effectiveness in this role. A background in financial technology or related fields can also be beneficial, as it provides context for the challenges and opportunities in the industry.
In this role, you will be responsible for owning and delivering quarterly goals for your team, leading engineers through complex problem-solving processes. You will collaborate with product management, design, and analytics teams, participating in ideation sessions and articulating technical constraints to inform decision-making. Your focus will be on building cohesive and scalable solutions for purchase protection, including disputes and refunds, which are critical to the user journey. You will proactively identify areas for improvement and work with your peers to enhance the product development lifecycle. Your contributions will directly impact Affirm's ability to expand into new international markets, ensuring that the platform meets the needs of diverse customer bases.
