Example Responsibilities

1. Data Platform Modernization & Architecture

  • Lead end-to-end modernization of legacy SQL Server BI solutions (SSIS/SSAS/SSRS) into cloud-native AWS Medallion architectures.

  • Architect scalable, cost-efficient data models using Iceberg, Redshift, Glue, Athena, Lambda, and related AWS ecosystem tools.

  • Ensure continuity of user experience while evolving backend systems to more modern, resilient, and performant designs.

  • Drive creation of cloud-ready data pipelines, semantic layers, and analytics structures that replace on-prem multidimensional cubes.

2. Advanced Analytics & Cube Design

  • Perform in-depth analysis of existing SSAS multidimensional cubes, including data models, MDX logic, calculations, KPIs, and partitioning strategies.

  • Design and implement equivalent or improved cloud-native analytical cube constructs, ensuring high interactivity and query performance at scale.

  • Develop semantic layers aligned to business personas for dashboards, self-service analytics, and Excel-based pivot consumption.

3. Data Engineering Leadership

  • Own and optimize data ingestion, transformation, quality, governance, and orchestration layers across Bronze → Silver → Gold.

  • Establish engineering standards, reusable frameworks, and best practices for cloud-based data pipelines.

  • Oversee performance tuning, cost optimization, and proactive monitoring across the platform.

4. DevOps, DataOps & Observability

  • Implement CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and release management for ETL/ELT and analytics workloads.

  • Champion observability practices (logging, tracing, metrics, alerts) for cloud data systems.

  • Foster a culture of automation, speed, and reliability across the SDLC value chain.

5. Governance, Security & Compliance

  • Ensure adherence to data governance, lineage, security policies, and compliance standards.

  • Oversee access controls and audit readiness across cloud data layers.

6. Performance Management & Tracking

  • Set and articulate clear team and individual goals aligned with company objectives.

  • Develop and oversee execution strategies to ensure targets are met.

  • Track, report, and escalate progress, delays, and risks to leadership.

  • Hold team members accountable for performance and responsibilities.

  • Propose new initiatives that contribute to growth and efficiency.

7. People Leadership & Development

  • Provide ongoing coaching, mentorship, and guidance through regular, quality 1:1s and review cycles.

  • Oversee employee development and create opportunities for personal/professional growth in alignment with business needs. Including developing future leaders and conducting succession planning.

  • Delegate tasks effectively to empower and upskill team members.

  • Recognize and reward strong performance to sustain morale and motivation.

  • Manage the full employee lifecycle, from hiring to exit.

  • Act as a point of escalation for conflict resolution.

8. Collaboration & Stakeholder Management

  • Facilitate seamless cross-department collaboration.

  • Build strong relationships with peers, leadership, and stakeholders.
