Overview

Apple is seeking an Estimation Scientist to work on special projects within the Location Services team. You'll leverage your expertise in RF-based location technologies and software development to shape the next generation of location-aware mobile experiences. This role requires strong skills in C++ and estimation techniques.

Job Description

Who you are

You have a strong theoretical and practical understanding of estimation, especially as it applies to device location — your expertise includes Kalman filters and particle filters, which are essential for developing accurate location technologies. You are a skilled software developer experienced in C++, enabling you to write efficient and effective production software that meets the needs of innovative projects.

Your understanding of RF and location signal processing techniques is comprehensive — you are familiar with ranging, TOA, RTT, PDOA, and TDOA, which are critical for enhancing location accuracy. You possess the ability to prototype systems for technology evaluation, algorithm development, and error modeling, showcasing your capability to turn theoretical concepts into practical applications.

You thrive in collaborative environments and are eager to work with an elite team investigating new technologies — your passion for building technology that makes a difference drives you to contribute to projects that transform users' lives. You are motivated by the challenge of integrating digital and physical experiences seamlessly, ensuring that the technologies you develop are user-centric and impactful.

Desirable

Experience with data technologies is a plus, as it complements your skill set in estimation and location services. You are open to learning and adapting to new technologies, which is essential in a rapidly evolving field like location services.

What you'll do

In this role, you will be part of a team that designs, implements, and powers brand new technologies and services — your contributions will help establish hardware requirements and system design, ensuring that the projects you work on are grounded in practical feasibility. You will conduct developmental testing to validate the technologies you help create, ensuring they meet the high standards expected at Apple.

You will track results relative to physical and theoretical limits, providing insights that will guide future developments and improvements. Your work will directly influence the next generation of location-aware mobile experiences, allowing you to shape how users interact with technology in their daily lives.

Collaboration is key in this role — you will work closely with cross-functional teams to bring innovative ideas from prototype to production. Your ability to communicate complex concepts clearly will be essential as you engage with team members from various disciplines, ensuring that everyone is aligned on project goals and expectations.

What we offer

At Apple, you will be part of a culture that values innovation and creativity — we encourage you to apply even if your experience doesn't match every requirement, as we believe diverse perspectives lead to better solutions. You will have the opportunity to work on cutting-edge technologies that empower millions of developers and reach over a billion users worldwide.

We offer a collaborative work environment where your contributions are recognized and valued. You will have access to resources and support that will help you grow professionally and personally, ensuring that you can continue to develop your skills and advance your career.

Join us at Apple, where you can make a meaningful impact on the future of technology and user experiences. We are excited to see how your unique talents and insights can help us push the boundaries of what is possible in location services.
