Overview

Okta is seeking a Staff Product Designer to lead Developer Experience design work. You'll guide the design vision for developer interactions with documentation, SDKs, and APIs. This role requires strategic thinking and hands-on design skills.

Job Description

Who you are

You have a strong background in product design, with a focus on creating intuitive user experiences — your portfolio showcases your ability to simplify complex processes and enhance user engagement. You understand the developer journey and have experience designing for technical audiences, ensuring that your designs resonate with users who are both creative and analytical.

With at least 5 years of experience in product design, you have a proven track record of leading design projects from concept to execution — you thrive in collaborative environments and enjoy working closely with engineers and product managers to bring your vision to life. Your strategic mindset allows you to align design goals with business objectives, ensuring that your work contributes to the overall success of the company.

You are proficient in design tools such as Figma and Adobe XD, and you have a solid understanding of design systems and best practices — your ability to create cohesive and scalable design solutions sets you apart. You are also comfortable conducting user research and usability testing to gather insights that inform your design decisions.

You are a lifelong learner, always seeking to improve your skills and stay updated on industry trends — you embrace feedback and use it to refine your work, understanding that design is an iterative process. Your passion for design is evident in your work, and you are excited about the opportunity to make a significant impact at Okta.

Desirable

Experience with identity solutions or developer tools is a plus, as it will help you better understand the needs of your users. Familiarity with APIs and SDKs will enhance your ability to create designs that facilitate seamless interactions for developers.

What you'll do

In this pivotal role, you will lead the design vision for Okta's Developer Experience, focusing on enhancing the journey of developers who interact with our products — from their first encounter with our documentation to their ongoing use of our APIs and management dashboard. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure that the design aligns with technical feasibility and user needs.

You will be responsible for creating wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity designs that effectively communicate your ideas — your designs will not only be visually appealing but also functional and user-friendly. You will conduct user research to gather feedback and insights, using this information to iterate on your designs and improve the overall user experience.

As a Staff Product Designer, you will mentor junior designers, sharing your expertise and helping them grow in their roles — you will foster a culture of design thinking within the team, encouraging innovative solutions and creative problem-solving. You will also participate in design reviews, providing constructive feedback to your peers and ensuring that the design quality remains high across all projects.

You will work closely with product managers to define project scopes and timelines, ensuring that design deliverables are met on schedule — your ability to balance multiple projects while maintaining attention to detail will be crucial in this role. You will also advocate for user-centered design principles, ensuring that the needs of developers are always at the forefront of your work.

What we offer

At Okta, we offer a collaborative and inclusive work environment where your contributions will be valued — you will have the opportunity to work on innovative identity solutions that make a real difference in the lives of users. We provide competitive compensation and benefits, along with opportunities for professional development and growth.

Join us in our mission to simplify and secure digital experiences for everyone — your work will play a key role in shaping the future of identity management. We encourage you to apply even if your experience doesn't match every requirement, as we value diverse perspectives and experiences.
