Dropbox is hiring a Senior Full Stack Engineer to evolve the Dropbox Desktop application. You'll build user-facing features end-to-end using Angular, Node.js, and Python. This role requires 8+ years of experience in full-stack development.
You have over 8 years of professional experience in full-stack development, demonstrating a strong ability to deliver impactful product capabilities and technical systems. Your educational background includes a BS degree or higher, providing you with a solid foundation in software engineering principles. You are adept at collaborating with cross-functional teams, balancing technical requirements with business goals, and mentoring junior engineers to foster their growth. Your problem-solving skills are top-notch, allowing you to drive trade-offs and achieve optimal solutions in complex scenarios. You are also comfortable participating in on-call rotations to maintain service reliability, understanding the importance of being available during both core and non-core business hours.
Your technical expertise spans both front-end and back-end development, with proficiency in frameworks and languages such as Angular, HTML/CSS for the front-end, and Node.js and Python for the back-end. You have familiarity with databases like MySQL, PostgreSQL, or MongoDB, which enhances your ability to manage data effectively in your applications. Additionally, you have experience building and maintaining desktop applications, ideally using Electron or similar cross-platform frameworks, giving you a deep understanding of desktop-specific challenges and performance optimization.
While not required, experience with Electron or similar frameworks is preferred, as it will enable you to tackle desktop-specific challenges more effectively. A strong understanding of performance optimization techniques for desktop applications will also be beneficial in this role.
As a Senior Full Stack Engineer on the Desktop Experience team, you will play a crucial role in evolving the Dropbox Desktop application, which is a key surface for users. You will be responsible for building user-facing features from end to end, ensuring that they are not only functional but also provide a seamless user experience. Collaboration is key in this role, as you will work closely with Product and Design partners to align technical capabilities with user needs and business objectives.
You will take ownership of product capabilities and technical systems, delivering ongoing business impact through your contributions. Your role will involve mentoring junior engineers, helping them develop their skills and grow within the team. You will lead problem-solving initiatives, driving trade-offs to achieve optimal solutions that balance technical feasibility with user experience.
Participation in on-call rotations is a requirement, as many teams at Dropbox run services that necessitate availability during both core and non-core business hours. This aspect of the role ensures that you are actively involved in maintaining service reliability and addressing any issues that may arise.
