Google is seeking a Senior Data Scientist/Research Economist to conduct research on the economic impacts of AI technologies. You'll work with Python, R, and SQL to analyze data and communicate findings. This role requires a Master's degree and 4+ years of relevant experience.
You hold a Master's degree in Economics, Statistics, Data Science, Public Policy, Business, Finance, or a related field, or possess equivalent practical experience. With at least 4 years of experience, you have a proven track record of using analytics to solve product or business problems, conduct economic research, and perform statistical analysis. Your coding skills in Python, R, and SQL are strong, enabling you to query databases effectively and derive meaningful insights from data.
You have a PhD in Economics or a related field, focusing on labor economics, policy evaluation, industrial organization, or applied econometrics, which enhances your analytical capabilities. With 6 years of experience, you have successfully conducted innovative analyses and research, utilizing various methodologies and data sources, including text data and large datasets. Your familiarity with AI tools and technologies reflects your passion for understanding their broader economic impact.
You excel at communicating complex technical analyses to non-technical stakeholders and senior management, ensuring that your insights are accessible and actionable. Your collaborative spirit allows you to maintain effective working relationships with partners across Google, including teams in Research, Public Policy, and Behavioral Economics, leveraging their inputs to enhance your research and its impact on evidence-based policymaking.
Experience working with think tanks and academic institutions to amplify research impact is a plus. You are comfortable navigating cross-functional initiatives and can effectively engage with top academics and policymakers to drive research efforts.
In this role, you will design and conduct research on the economic impacts of AI technologies, pioneering novel datasets and empirical methodologies. You will be a key contributor to Google's AI and Economy program, which is a high-priority initiative aimed at producing impactful research and building new data products that elucidate AI's economic implications. Your work will involve measuring and communicating the economically meaningful usage of AI in Google products, providing insights that inform product strategy decisions.
You will support various research efforts across the organization, collaborating closely with teams to leverage their expertise and insights. Your ability to communicate findings effectively will be crucial in supporting product strategy and engaging with stakeholders at all levels.
