Intern – Composite Manufacturing Processes for Thermal Protection Systems (TPS)

Here at The Exploration Company, we are developing, producing, and operating Nyx, a modular and reusable space orbital vehicle that can eventually be refuelled in orbit and that can carry cargo - and potentially humans in the longer run.

Internship Topic

Development, characterization, and optimization of a composite manufacturing process for Thermal Protection System (TPS) panels.

Objectives

• Help optimize manufacturing parameters, curing cycles, and in-process controls.

• Assist in material and tooling preparation (fibers, resins, molds).

• Support manufacturing trials: RTM, infusion, vacuum bagging, autoclave/oven curing.

• Participate in mechanical and thermal testing campaigns for panel characterization.

• Document processes and propose improvements to workshop methods.

Profile

Education:

• Technical or engineering background (Master’s level) in:

  • composite materials

  • aeronautics or aerospace

Desired skills:

• Understanding of composite manufacturing processes (infusion, molding, curing)

• Basic knowledge of CAD

• Strong attention to detail, manual skills.

• Curiosity, willingness to learn, and ability to work in a team
