Job Description

Overview

Microsoft Research India (MSR India) is a leading research lab advancing innovation across the research areas like Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning, Theory, Technology & Empowerment and Systems. Established two decades ago, the lab has been at the forefront of computer science research in India and has been home to world class talent and projects.

We are seeking a Technical Program Manager (TPM) - a unique role at the intersection of innovation and impact. You would be an integral member of the technical team, driving research and execution projects and steering relationships with internal and external stakeholders.



Responsibilities

As a Technical Program Manager at MSR India, you will:

  • Drive Program Management: Build technology roadmaps, and milestone plans with clear OKRs; manage dependencies and unblock execution across teams for research projects.
  • Contribute to Research & Execution: Contribute to strategy and end-to-end execution for disruptive research initiatives, ensuring robust pipelines, high quality deliverables, and timely milestones.
  • Collaborate closely with Technical Team: Work hands-on with researchers and engineers in a boundaryless manner, actively contributing to the design, development, experimentation, and deployment of cutting-edge solutions across the lab’s projects.
  • Steer Stakeholder Relationships: Manage relationships across diverse stakeholders - including internal teams, academia, NGOs, government agencies, and volunteer communities to amplify engagement and impact.


Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors, in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent disciplines.
  • 5+ years of experience as a Technical Program Manager or in product development.
  • 2+ years managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects.
  • Experience using data to drive prioritization and measure progress.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to engage with senior executives and customers.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s or PhD in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent disciplines.
  • Experience in AI/ML research environments or research-to-product tech transfer.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate in ambiguous, high velocity settings and shape strategy for emerging technologies.
  • Familiarity with Responsible AI practices and experimentation workflows.
  • Hands-on technical skills in AI/ML, software engineering, or related domains are highly desirable.
