Waymo is seeking a Senior Staff Software Engineer to lead technical projects in simulation for autonomous driving technology. You'll work with Java, Python, and C++ to enhance automated issue detection and drive technical strategy. This role requires extensive experience in simulation and cross-functional collaboration.
You have 5+ years of experience in software engineering, particularly in simulation technologies, and have successfully led complex technical projects. Your expertise in programming languages such as Java, Python, and C++ allows you to tackle challenging problems effectively. You thrive in collaborative environments, working closely with cross-functional teams to drive innovative solutions. Your strong analytical skills enable you to define and implement technical strategies that enhance system performance and reliability. You are passionate about autonomous driving technology and understand the importance of safety and efficiency in this field. You are also comfortable with tools like Docker and Kubernetes, which are essential for deploying and managing applications in a cloud environment.
Experience with machine learning frameworks and data analysis tools would be a plus, as would familiarity with automated testing and continuous integration practices. A background in the automotive industry or experience with autonomous systems would further enhance your candidacy.
In this role, you will define and drive the technical strategy for the full lifecycle of issue response within the Simulator, focusing on automated detection and root cause analysis. You will lead cross-functional initiatives to enhance automated issue detection by integrating new data sources and signals. Your responsibilities will include building and scaling new simulation capabilities relevant to Waymo's deployments, such as freeway driving and challenging weather conditions. You will also work on developing complex long-tail evaluation needs to ensure the robustness of the Waymo Driver. Collaborating with various teams, you will ensure that the simulation environment meets the highest standards of accuracy and reliability, contributing to the overall mission of improving mobility and safety.
Waymo offers a competitive salary range of $281,000—$356,000 USD, along with eligibility for an annual bonus program and equity incentive plan.
