Overview

SpaceX is hiring a Thermal Development Technician to support the development and integration of the heat shield for the Starship spacecraft. You'll maintain and operate robotic systems and various equipment, requiring skills in CNC and robotics.

Who you are

You have experience as a technician in a manufacturing or engineering environment, particularly with robotic systems and automated processes. You are skilled in maintaining and programming robotic and automated systems, ensuring they operate efficiently and effectively. Your background includes working with various equipment such as vacuum chambers, thermal chambers, and CNC machines, which are crucial for the tasks at hand. You are familiar with electrical and mechanical components, enabling you to replace and install parts as needed to keep systems running smoothly. You understand the importance of safety and precision in a high-stakes environment like aerospace, and you are committed to upholding these standards in your work.

Desirable

Experience with thermal protection systems or aerospace applications is a plus, as is familiarity with the specific challenges of space exploration. You may have a background in materials science or engineering, which would enhance your ability to contribute to the development of heat shield technologies. A proactive approach to problem-solving and a willingness to learn new technologies will set you apart in this role.

What you'll do

In this role, you will be responsible for maintaining, programming, and operating robotic and automated systems that are integral to the manufacturing and integration of the heat shield for the Starship spacecraft. You will provide maintenance on various equipment, including vacuum chambers and thermal chambers, ensuring they are in optimal working condition. Your responsibilities will also include the repair and operation of robotic welders, which are essential for the fabrication of components that must withstand extreme conditions. You will replace and install electrical components such as switches, relays, and sensors, as well as mechanical components like bearings and motors, to ensure all systems function correctly. Your work will directly support the TPS team in tackling the challenges of space exploration, contributing to the development of technologies that will enable human life on Mars.
