Overview

Microsoft is hiring a Principal Data Architect to design and deliver innovative data products that support AI-powered productivity. You'll work with Azure and collaborate with engineering and data science teams. This role requires extensive experience in data architecture and platform design.

Job Description

Who you are

You have a strong background in data architecture with over 10 years of experience in designing and implementing scalable data solutions — you've successfully led teams in building data platforms that support complex AI applications. Your expertise in Azure is complemented by a deep understanding of data engineering and analytics, allowing you to create robust data infrastructures that meet business needs.

You thrive in collaborative environments and have a proven track record of partnering with cross-functional teams, including engineering, data science, and product management — your ability to communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders sets you apart. You are passionate about data privacy and compliance, ensuring that all data products adhere to the highest standards of security and ethical use.

Your growth mindset drives you to continuously learn and adapt in the fast-evolving field of AI and data — you are excited about the potential of AI to transform productivity and are eager to contribute to innovative solutions that empower users. You value curiosity and are always looking for new ways to leverage data for strategic advantage.

Desirable

Experience with machine learning frameworks and tools is a plus, as is familiarity with data governance practices — you understand the importance of data quality and integrity in driving successful AI initiatives. A background in agile methodologies will help you navigate the dynamic nature of product development at Microsoft.

What you'll do

As a Principal Data Architect, you will lead the design and development of the Copilot Data Platform, ensuring it meets the needs of Microsoft 365 Copilot experiences — your role will involve architecting data solutions that are not only scalable but also future-proof, enabling seamless data onboarding and high-quality data delivery. You will work closely with internal partners to understand their data needs and translate them into actionable architecture plans.

You will be responsible for overseeing the implementation of data pipelines and analytics frameworks that support both online and offline evaluation of AI models — your expertise will guide the team in optimizing data flows and ensuring that data is accessible and usable for various applications. You will also play a key role in establishing best practices for data management and governance, fostering a culture of data-driven decision-making across the organization.

Collaboration is at the heart of this role, as you will partner with engineering and product teams to drive innovation and accelerate the development of AI capabilities — your insights will help shape the future of AI at Microsoft, making a significant impact on how users interact with technology.

What we offer

Microsoft offers a dynamic work environment where you can thrive and grow — you will be part of a team that values diversity, inclusion, and collaboration. We provide opportunities for professional development and encourage you to take on new challenges that will enhance your skills and career trajectory. Competitive compensation and benefits are part of our commitment to supporting our employees' well-being and success.
