We are looking for a talented attorney to join the Restricted Products Legal team. You will support the regulatory product compliance program for Amazon's Consumer store in the US and Canada. This will involve advising business teams about product regulations, engaging with federal, state, and local regulatory bodies about the state of Amazon's compliance, working with outside counsel to stay abreast of new developments, and partnering with internal teams to implement and maintain compliance controls. You will also work closely with the Litigation team on any formal actions or investigations.
The successful candidate will have experience advising clients on product-related issues that include PR, public policy, and logistics/operational considerations. They will be relentlessly focused on how Amazon can help selling partners understand their compliance obligations and make it easy for them to do business with us. Effective communication and strong writing skills are a must!
Key job responsibilities
- Counseling internal stakeholders (e.g., retail business teams, international operations teams, other Consumer Legal stakeholders) on Amazon's product compliance strategy and execution options
- Monitoring regulatory developments
- Reviewing compliance goals and plans with business and legal stakeholders
- Advising on internal processes and practices to support compliance-related strategies
- Inspecting defects (e.g., selling partner complaints, noncompliant products flagged by regulators, concerns from customers) to identify corrective and preventative actions
- Proactive and reactive regulatory engagement
- Managing outside counsel
- Supporting discreet PR and Public Policy inquiries and escalations
A day in the life
A typical day in the life of this role will involve meeting with members of the RISC business team to review planned deployments of new compliance controls. You will research new legal requirements imposed by agencies and assess how Amazon complies with them. You'll attend weekly huddles with product category compliance specialists and share intelligence about what tactics work best and what hurdles the team is encountering. And you will have regular contact with regulators who flag questions or concerns for Amazon. The RISC Legal team has a strong camaraderie so lunches, team events, and happy hours are also a possibility.

The RISC Legal Team sits within Amazon NA Consumer Legal. RP Legal's mission is to maximize lawful selection of products offered in our US and Canada online stores while minimizing unlawful selection, product regulatory risk to Amazon, and negative impact on customer trust. We regularly engage with regulators, selling partners, and external stakeholders about the health of our product-level compliance.- 5+ years of legal experience
- Juris Doctor and membership in one state bar or equivalent- Experience of a mix of corporate law firm and in-house work

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $138,500/year in our lowest geographic market up to $229,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
