You have a strong background in backend engineering with a focus on building scalable systems — your experience includes architecting solutions that handle millions of daily active users, ensuring reliability and performance. You thrive in ambiguous situations and enjoy operating with autonomy, making you well-suited for a role that requires driving technical strategy across teams.
Your technical expertise includes knowledge of programming languages such as Python and Go — you understand the intricacies of distributed systems and have a track record of setting technical direction that aligns with business goals. You are comfortable collaborating with cross-functional teams, including Product Managers and Engineering Managers, to align on priorities and deliver high-impact solutions.
You are passionate about simplifying complex systems and enhancing user experiences — your ability to evaluate trade-offs between speed, quality, and long-term maintainability is a key asset in your engineering toolkit. You have experience building developer platforms or infrastructure that accelerates product delivery, which is crucial for this role.
Experience with compilers, databases, or distributed storage systems would be a plus — you are always eager to learn and adopt new technologies that can improve system performance and user satisfaction. Your leadership skills enable you to influence and mentor other engineers, fostering a culture of collaboration and innovation within your team.
In this role, you will architect and deliver high-impact technical solutions that scale to millions of users — your contributions will directly impact the reliability and performance of Dropbox's core sync experience. You will partner with Product, Design, and Engineering peers to align on project priorities and ensure that technical solutions meet user needs.
You will shape the technical direction of projects by evaluating trade-offs between speed, quality, and maintainability — your insights will guide the team in making informed decisions that balance immediate execution with long-term architectural investments. You will also have the opportunity to drive the adoption of new technologies and practices that enhance the overall development process.
As a Staff Engineer, you will take on substantial technical ownership — you will lead initiatives that require collaboration across multiple teams, ensuring that everyone is aligned and working towards common goals. Your ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly will be essential in fostering collaboration and understanding among team members.
At Dropbox, you will be part of a team that values innovation and collaboration — we encourage you to apply even if your experience doesn't match every requirement.
