Who you are

You have a minimum of 5 years of mechanical/HVAC experience in an industrial or commercial environment, demonstrating your ability to handle complex systems and ensure their optimal performance. Your background includes an Associate's degree, trade school certification, or equivalent practical experience in a related technical field. You are familiar with the use of OSHA standard safety equipment and can participate in material handling tasks, lifting and moving equipment as needed. Your experience in maintenance of mechanical and cooling distribution systems makes you a valuable asset in a technical environment.

You possess knowledge of meters, devices, sensors, and troubleshooting techniques, utilizing standard hand tools and digital metering or calibration equipment. Your understanding of mechanical systems used in data centers, such as chillers, air handling units, pumps, and CRAC/CRAH units, equips you to effectively manage and maintain these critical systems. You are comfortable communicating with contractors who perform maintenance or upgrade work on data center systems, ensuring that all operations run smoothly.

Your ability to work non-standard hours and shifts demonstrates your flexibility and commitment to maintaining the uptime of data center facilities. You are proactive in identifying and responding to abnormal conditions in the facilities systems and equipment, ensuring that all systems operate efficiently and effectively.

Desirable

Experience in data centers, hospitals, or power plants is a plus, as it enhances your understanding of the unique challenges faced in these environments. Your familiarity with startup, commissioning, and integration of new mechanical equipment and systems into facilities infrastructure will further contribute to your success in this role.

What you'll do

In this role, you will operate, monitor, and support the physical facilities conditions of Google’s data centers. Your responsibilities will include managing the uptime and maintenance of water pumps and treatment systems, HVAC, and control and monitoring systems. You will be tasked with ensuring the heating and cooling of air and water, as well as overseeing power supply, generators, and UPS systems. Your expertise will be crucial in assessing the working order of various systems and conducting tours to ensure everything is functioning as intended.

You will support the startup and commissioning of new mechanical equipment and systems, integrating them into the existing facilities infrastructure. Your role will require you to respond to abnormal conditions in the data center facilities systems and equipment, taking immediate action to resolve any issues that arise. You will collaborate with a team of professionals to ensure that all mechanical systems are operating at peak performance, contributing to the overall efficiency and reliability of the data center.
