Google is hiring a Data Center Technician for the Night Shift to install, configure, and maintain hardware and server software. You'll work with Linux and networking protocols while ensuring the reliability of Google's infrastructure.
You have experience with assembly of mechanical or electrical systems, or performing component-level repairs and troubleshooting on technical equipment. You are physically capable of lifting and moving 50lb (23kg) of equipment and can exert yourself physically over extended periods, including frequent bending, kneeling, climbing, pushing/pulling, and lifting. You are adaptable and can work non-standard hours, including weekends, night shifts, and holidays. You have at least 1 year of experience diagnosing and troubleshooting operating systems and computer/server hardware or networking protocols. You are a collaborative team player who can effectively execute verbal and written instructions.
Experience in a similar role such as Systems Administration, Network Deployment Engineer, or Help Desk Technician is preferred. You have a strong ability to adapt to changes in a dynamic work environment and can collaborate with teams to overcome challenges.
As a Data Center Technician at Google, you will be responsible for installing, configuring, testing, troubleshooting, and maintaining hardware, including servers and their components. You will work with server software, particularly Google's Linux cluster, ensuring that all systems are operational and secure. You will also handle the configuration of complex components such as networks, routers, hubs, bridges, and switches. Your role will involve performing preventative maintenance on equipment and addressing any identified issues with defined solutions. You will work in a team setting to disassemble equipment that has reached its end-of-life and perform necessary repairs or part replacements. Your contributions will help maintain the state-of-the-art physical infrastructure that supports Google's powerful search technology.
