Overview

Google is seeking a Senior Data Center Engineer specializing in Mechanical Engineering to design and optimize mechanical infrastructure for data centers. You'll leverage your expertise in mission-critical facility design and construction. This role requires 5+ years of relevant experience.

Job Description

Who you are

You have a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering, or a related discipline, along with at least 5 years of experience in mission-critical facility design and construction environments. Your background includes extensive experience in mechanical infrastructure, and you are comfortable with the complexities of designing and commissioning mechanical systems. You are also willing to travel up to 15 to 30% of the time as needed. A Master's degree in Engineering or a professional engineering license is preferred, showcasing your commitment to the field.

Your expertise extends to estimating, mechanical design, operation, and commissioning of mission-critical data center mechanical equipment. You have hands-on experience with mechanical cooling plants, fire suppression systems, fuel oil systems, domestic water systems, and sanitary sewer systems, all within mission-critical facility design and construction environments. You understand the intricacies of designing complex modular building scale assemblies, with a keen eye for mechanical tolerances and tolerance analysis.

You possess a strong knowledge of mechanical engineering and design principles, particularly focusing on medium-scale production, structural beams and elements, and international building codes. Your thirst for technology drives you to innovate and optimize efficiencies in every project you undertake. You are a visionary who is not afraid to tackle complex topics, such as power usage and environmentally-friendly facility operations.

What you'll do

In this role, you will be part of the Data Center Engineering team, taking the physical design of Google's data centers into the future. You will conduct engineering analysis and research designs and methods for data center equipment and facilities, ensuring that all designs and installations meet stringent requirements, including predicted cooling, structural integrity, and operational concerns. You will represent Google both internally and externally at leadership levels, engaging with executive stakeholders to communicate complex engineering concepts effectively.

Your responsibilities will include overseeing the design, construction, and commissioning of mechanical systems, ensuring that they align with Google's high standards for efficiency and sustainability. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop innovative solutions that enhance the performance of data center operations. Your role will also involve mentoring junior engineers, sharing your knowledge and expertise to foster a culture of continuous improvement within the team.

You will be expected to stay updated with the latest advancements in mechanical engineering and data center technologies, applying this knowledge to drive improvements in design and operational practices. Your ability to navigate complex permitting processes will be crucial in ensuring that all projects comply with local regulations and standards.

What we offer

At Google, you will be part of a dynamic team that is dedicated to pushing the boundaries of technology and engineering. We offer a competitive salary and benefits package, along with opportunities for professional growth and development. You will work in a collaborative environment that encourages innovation and creativity, allowing you to make a significant impact on the future of data center design and operations. Join us in our mission to create efficient, sustainable, and cutting-edge data centers that support our global infrastructure.
