GitLab is seeking a Staff Backend Engineer to enhance the Developer Experience across internal engineering teams. You'll work with Ruby and GitLab to improve testing approaches and development experiences. This role requires significant backend engineering experience.
You have extensive experience in backend engineering, particularly with Ruby, and a strong understanding of how to enhance developer experiences within engineering teams. Your background includes working cross-functionally to identify and implement improvements that drive efficiency and innovation in software development.
You are familiar with GitLab and its functionalities, understanding how to leverage its tools to optimize workflows and enhance collaboration among teams. Your experience includes transforming testing approaches and development experiences to ensure high-quality outputs from engineering teams.

As a Staff Backend Engineer in the Developer Experience group, you will play a pivotal role in identifying and improving the engineering experience across GitLab’s internal teams. You will collaborate with various stakeholders to assess current processes and implement changes that enhance the overall development workflow.
You will lead initiatives aimed at transforming testing approaches, ensuring that engineers can deliver high-quality software efficiently. Your role will involve analyzing existing systems, gathering feedback from engineering teams, and proposing actionable improvements that align with GitLab's mission of enabling everyone to contribute to software development.
You will work closely with product and engineering teams to ensure that the tools and processes in place support the needs of developers. This includes advocating for best practices in software development and testing, as well as promoting the use of AI to streamline workflows.
You will also be responsible for mentoring junior engineers, sharing your expertise, and fostering a culture of continuous learning within the team.
