Job Description

Sustainability Policy Manager, APJ: This role will be part of the Energy, Water, and Sustainability (EWS) policy team in APJ, reporting to the head of this function.This role will work on a range of policy issues that include a) unblocking hurdles to water positive and water sustainability goals, b) creating enabling policies for de-carbonizing indirect emissions from energy usage, and c) supporting Infra strategies for addressing embodied carbon in infra supply chain, procurement, and construction. This role will also address the regulatory risk from DC sustainability-related compliance / reporting requirements. Apart from that, the sustainability policy manager will shape regulatory landscape on green data center requirements and standards.

Key job responsibilities
• Creating enabling policies de-carbonization of operations in relation to water, waste, sustainability, and support for piloting, permitting, and implementation of new technologies/approaches.
• Manage policy priorities and lead engagements with policy makers and/or regulatory bodies, and related industry groups or trade associations
• Deepen relationship with external stakeholders and experts to identify opportunities and risks arising from policy and regulatory developments that would impact AWS's long term growth
• Work closely with internal business partners to draft and/or contribute to policy/regulatory submissions, and to engage with stakeholders
• Contribute to sustainability policy advocacy and thought leadership efforts internally and externally
• Horizon scanning & proactive engagement with respect to regulatory analysis of sustainable management of resources, especially, carbon, water, and waste across the Data Center industry.
• Addressing sustainability and water use-related risks / delays in siting, design, and construction approvals.
• Contribute to the advocacy on Data Center Standards on Carbon Reporting, and supporting Amazon carbon neutralization strategy development in APJ
• 10+ years working with government stakeholders, policy think tanks, representing a large manufacturing or services company or association before national and local policymakers.
• Bachelor’s degree is required in a relevant discipline, preferably public policy, natural science, or environmental studies.
• Fluent written and spoken English• Prior experience in sustainability related advocacy.
• The successful candidate must be inquisitive, demonstrate high integrity, be enthusiastic about data center technology, enjoy working hard and being continually challenged, and demonstrate sound judgment in ambiguous situations.
• Previous work experience engaging and/or executing advocates for large sustainability projects with governments.
• A good track record of achieving meaningful changes to regulatory environment through public policy advocacy.
• Excellent understanding of sustainability landscape of various countries in APJ.
• Ability to synthesize policy documents for internal and external customers.
• Highly effective oral, written and interpersonal communication skills. Demonstrated ability to interact effectively and comfortably with senior government officials.
• Must be flexible and demonstrate strong judgment, decision-making skills, and political acumen, with the ability to influence, negotiate with, and persuade others as required.
• Maintain highest personal levels of ethical conduct, confidentiality, and integrity, with a strong professional reputation in the industry.
• Self-starter with proven track record of successfully working with a wide array of functional groups across an organization, as well as across cultures. Ability to work independently as required.
• Demonstrated ability to build and foster effective relationships and networks with external stakeholders.
• Effective time-management skills, including the ability to prioritize and manage competing demands on your time.
