Waymo is seeking a 2026 Summer Intern, PhD, Software Engineer for their Release Evaluation team. You'll work on improving evaluation workflows and applying generative AI models. This internship is ideal for candidates with a background in machine learning and Python.
You are a PhD student with a strong foundation in software engineering and a keen interest in machine learning. You have experience with Python and are eager to apply your knowledge in a practical setting. Experience with generative AI models or automated evaluation workflows would be a plus, as would familiarity with autonomous systems or robotics. You are adaptable and willing to tackle complex challenges, demonstrating a proactive approach to problem-solving.
As a Summer Intern at Waymo, you will work closely with the Release Evaluation team to enhance the signal quality of our evaluation workflow. Your primary responsibility will be to detect issues in the onboard perception system, ensuring that each version of the Waymo Driver is safe before it hits the road. You will apply generative AI models to develop features that provide insights into offboard perception detection qualities. This role will allow you to engage with cutting-edge technology and contribute to the safety and reliability of autonomous driving systems.
You will collaborate with experienced engineers and researchers, gaining hands-on experience in building automated pipelines that address rare and exceptional scenarios in autonomous driving. Your work will directly impact the evaluation processes that ensure the safety of our autonomous vehicles. You will also have opportunities to participate in team meetings, contribute to discussions, and present your findings to your peers.
