SpaceX is hiring a Paint Technician for the Falcon 9 project to mix, strip, paint, and detail advanced paint systems on launch vehicles. This role requires at least 1 year of experience with advanced paint systems and a high school diploma or equivalent.
You have a high school diploma or equivalency certificate and at least 1 year of experience spraying advanced paint systems such as epoxies, urethanes, solvent-based paints, or acrylics. You may also have a degree or certificate from an accredited trade school or program. Your experience in a manufacturing or production environment, particularly in the aerospace or aviation industry, is a plus. You are capable of interpreting electronic work instructions, process specifications, and technical drawings, and you can perform basic shop math, including geometry and trigonometry. You understand the importance of managing accurate mix ratios, cure schedules, and overcoat windows, and you possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
As a Paint Technician at SpaceX, you will be responsible for mixing, stripping, painting, and detailing advanced paint systems on launch vehicles. You will prepare metallic substrates using mechanical abrasion and chemical etchants, ensuring that the surfaces are ready for painting. Your role will also involve mixing and applying sealants and adhesives for structural components. You will conduct periodic maintenance on various paint spraying equipment, including gravity-fed, pressure pot, and airless-type systems. Additionally, you will accurately use precision measuring tools such as calipers, elcometers, or ohmmeters to ensure quality and precision in your work. You will assist with area projects aimed at improving safety, quality, and delivery within the team.
