Sr Backend Engineer, LATAM - API (100% Remote)

Who you are

You have 5+ years of backend engineering experience, particularly in building and maintaining production systems. Your expertise in Scala allows you to dive deep into complex codebases while ensuring high-quality outcomes. You understand the importance of delivering results quickly and can distinguish between what needs to be perfect from the start and what can be iterated upon. Your strong product thinking is anchored in customer experience, ensuring that the features you build meet user needs effectively.

You thrive in collaborative environments, working closely with engineers, designers, and product managers to align on project goals. You have experience designing and operating public APIs, and you are comfortable exploring engineering improvements to enhance both the product and team efficiency. Your ability to operate autonomously while maintaining strong communication with your team is a key asset.

Desirable

Experience with GCP services is a plus, as is familiarity with frontend technologies like React and TypeScript. You are eager to learn and adapt, always looking for creative solutions to engineering challenges. Your documentation skills ensure that your work is easily understood and maintained by others, contributing to the overall success of the team.

What you'll do

In this role, you will design, build, and operate a public API that enables partners to create a world-class travel portal. You will collaborate closely with your fellow engineers and product managers to ensure alignment on project objectives and deliverables. Your day-to-day will involve exploring engineering improvements and implementing best practices to enhance the product's performance and reliability.

You will work in a team that values asynchronous decision-making and minimal meetings, allowing you to focus on delivering high-quality results. Your contributions will directly impact the growth of Hopper's travel solutions, as you bring new features to market and provide exceptional support for partners. You will also be responsible for maintaining and documenting the API, ensuring that it meets the needs of both internal and external stakeholders.
