Senior Manager, Safety Lead, Middle East Autonomous Mobility & Delivery

**About the Team** The Autonomous Mobility and Delivery (AM&D) team at Uber is seeking to accelerate the arrival of safe, secure autonomous mobility and delivery offerings that complement our existing products and are beneficial for our customers, partners, and communities. This role is on Uber’s Autonomous Mobility and Delivery team and reports to the Senior Director, Head of Safety for Autonomous Mobility & Delivery. **About the Role** - We are seeking an experienced Safety Leader for Uber's AM&D Safety Team to effectively represent Uber’s Safety standards and requirements to our partners in the Middle East. - This role requires a strong understanding of safety management system core concepts, tailored to autonomous vehicle operations, and knowledge of the relevant industry standards and regulations that inform these activities. The candidate will contribute to regulatory discussions on safety standards and work closely with AV technology and fleet partners to promote adherence to safety protocols, industry standards, and Uber’s internal safety practices.This will be a highly cross-functional role, requiring collaboration with internal and external stakeholders in the complex and evolving AV space. This role will involve strategy, program management, and partner engagement responsibilities with a strong focus on cross functional collaboration, including local operations. **What You Will Do** - **Regulatory Support and Engagement:** Support engagement with local regulators by providing safety insights and technical input on Uber’s AV safety approach and compliance activities. Participate in meetings with regulatory bodies to help communicate Uber’s safety principles and operational practices. - **Technical Policy Support:** Apply technical understanding of AV safety frameworks to inform and contribute to the development of local safety standards and regulatory guidance. Collaborate with internal teams to ensure alignment with global safety policies. - **Vehicle and AV Expertise:** Develop technical safety recommendations guiding the deployment of AVs (without a safety officer) on the Uber Platform in commercial operations. - **Fleet Partner Collaboration:** Work collaboratively with fleet partners to assure that operational safety requirements are met, maintaining high standards in line with Uber's internal safety guidelines. - **Compliance Monitoring:** Conduct regular assurance reviews to evaluate ongoing compliance with established safety regulations and standards defined in Uber’s Safety Assurance program, ensuring continuous improvement in safety practices. - **Incident Response:** Liaise with various stakeholders, including Uber team members, fleet partners, and regulatory bodies, to manage and coordinate responses to any safety incidents or concerns. - **Fleet Partner Safety Enablement:** Identify, track, and execute critical partner-related action items to meet safety requirements against operational goals - **Industry Awareness:** Maintain up-to-date knowledge of safety and health trends in the AV and transportation industries. Participate in professional safety associations and networks to exchange best practices and emerging insights. - **Cross-functional Leadership:** Collaborate with many different skilled individuals across Uber, including business development, fleets, product management, legal, policy, safety operations, marketing, engineering, and regional operations teams - **Standards Collaboration:** Contribute to the development of industry safety best practices and standards by collaborating with peers and experts through organizations such as the AVSC, SAE, and other relevant bodies. ## **What You Will Need** - **Industry Experience**: Minimum of 6 years of demonstrated experience in transportation, automotive or autonomous vehicle development. - **AV Standards:** Demonstrated experience with safety standards related to autonomous mobility. - **Transportation Safety Expertise:** Familiarity with functional safety, operational safety, safety management systems, safety cases, safety critical software development, and safety data analysis. - **Communication & Relationship Building:** Exceptional communication, negotiation, and relationship management skills, with the ability to work across different cultures and industries. - **Operational Expertise:** Familiarity with the deployment and operations in a transportation environment - **Standards Collaboration:** Familiarity with or experience contributing to discussions within industry standards organizations (e.g., SAE, AVSC, IEEE, ISO) focused on safety and best practices for autonomous vehicles. **Nice to Have** - Advanced degree in safety, engineering, or related technical fields - Experience working in the Middle East markets or a similar regulatory landscape - Familiarity with Uber's Safety Assurance Program and relevant industry standards - Experience performing data analysis and statistical analysis of operational safety data to generate safety performance indicators - Experience representing a company or industry group in regulatory or policy discussions. - Demonstrated ability to lead multi-stakeholder efforts or working groups related to AV safety standards. - A continuous improvement approach, with a history of quick adaptation and self-directed learning - A passion for creating empathetic, inspiring, and innovative transportation solutions in pursuit of positive societal outcomes Uber's mission is to reimagine the way the world moves for the better.
