Job Description

Work hard, have fun and make history with Amazon Public Policy. The Senior Manager, Public Policy, will have the responsibility to help develop and execute government affairs advocacy objectives and political priorities for Amazon’s Project Kuiper at the federal level.

The Senior Manager will create and execute a federal government affairs strategy to set the public sector communications policy agenda with the legislative branch and other relevant federal agencies as needed. This position also includes effectively educating key agency officials and their staff on procurement policy. This position will coordinate advocacy work with trade associations, consultants, and policy organizations.

The Senior Manager will work collaboratively with our business teams to ensure alignment between business priorities and public policy goals. This position will assess and communicate potential government activities back to the business, develop mitigation or enhancement strategies and positions, and help coordinate external advocacy efforts, outreach programs, and key initiatives in concert with business objectives.


Key job responsibilities
Working in coordination with Amazon’s public policy team, the Senior Manager, Public Policy, will educate government customers on policies related to procurement and satellite communications solutions, and work to obtain flexible policies that support global broadband connectivity for government customers and commercial broadband technologies. They will work closely with the managing Senior Manager, Public Policy, and others, to represent Amazon on various public sector issues before Congress and federal agencies to preserve, establish, and enhance communications with policymakers on issues related to our business. - A BA/BS degree
- A minimum of 12 years of relevant experience with policymaking, including the mechanics of the regulatory and administrative policymaking process and procedures, and effective lobbying techniques related to government customers.
- An ability and desire to travel is required.
- This position requires Top Secret/Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS/SCI) clearance.

Export Control Requirement:
Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
- The ideal candidate will have experience interacting with the House and Senate Armed Services Committees and Appropriations, and substantive experience or knowledge on issues related to procurement policy and public sector and emerging communications solutions.
- Must be able to acquire/maintain Top Secret/Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS/SCI) clearance.
- An expert understanding of the legislative and regulatory policy process, the technology industry, and government customers.
- Expert skills in advocacy and using spoken and written rhetoric to persuade and inform.
- Strong program management and organizational skills.
- Candidates will be able to demonstrate their experience through previous work within Congress, companies, consultancies, trade associations, the government, or equivalent organizations.
- Some travel may be required.
