Job Description

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, a related technical/engineering field, or equivalent practical experience with a focus on hardware or AI/ML platforms.
  • 12 years of experience in technical sourcing or sourcing management.
  • 3 years of experience managing GPU, custom ASIC, or High-Performance Compute (HPC) hardware supply chains.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Proficiency in agreement negotiation, with the ability to structure, review, and finalize agreements with external vendors and partners.
  • Expertise in ASIC or chip design including architecture definition, RTL coding (e.g., Verilog/VHDL), synthesis, and modern design methodologies or chip testing (verification and validation).
  • Knowledge of AI/ML workload requirements and how they impact GPU performance, specifications, and total cost of ownership (TCO) modeling.
  • Exceptional communication skills (written, verbal, and presentation) with the ability to articulate complex technical or business topics clearly and concisely to executive leadership and drive effective cross-functional collaboration.

Commodity Managers work with Engineering teams to make sure Google has the supplies and equipment to put into production the innovative products coming from our Engineering teams. As a Commodity Manager, you use your wide industry knowledge and strategic supplier relationships to optimize our total cost of ownership for our global -- and growing -- infrastructure. The scale at which Google operates means that savings on just one piece of hardware can have a huge impact on Google's bottom line.

The Global Commodity Management (GCM) team is responsible for all aspects of supplier development and ongoing performance management to Google's technology and business needs.

As a Strategic Sourcing Manager, you will use your technical expertise with GPUs from a hardware and software perspective, enabling informed negotiation and strategic decisions based on a deep understanding of technology roadmaps and performance metrics. You will be part of a team managing projects, driving collaboration to develop and execute Google's sourcing strategy for our GPU products across multiple internal organizations, in support of our infrastructure deployment that powers Google's services.

In this role, you will be a key part of an end-to-end Supply Chain team that drives continuous improvements and ensures operational excellence in support of Google's growth. You are a strong team player who exhibits humility, is eager to learn and who has a strong work ethic. You are ambitious and ready to exert influence at the most executive levels of the organization. You will manage and lead with a strong executive presence and collaborate effectively across multiple functions.

Behind everything our users see online is the architecture built by the Technical Infrastructure team to keep it running. From developing and maintaining our data centers to building the next generation of Google platforms, we make Google's product portfolio possible. We're proud to be our engineers' engineers and love voiding warranties by taking things apart so we can rebuild them. We keep our networks up and running, ensuring our users have the best and fastest experience possible.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $221,000-$311,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for your preferred location during the hiring process.

Please note that the compensation details listed in US role postings reflect the base salary only, and do not include bonus, equity, or benefits. Learn more about benefits at Google.

  • Lead strategic sourcing management efforts, specifically for GPU technologies, supporting our engineering, sourcing, and supply chain objectives.
  • Advise on technical specifications and vendor roadmaps for new deployments, negotiating pricing and delivery, and leading executive supplier business reviews.
  • Collaborate closely with internal Hardware Engineering and Software/AI teams to define technical requirements for future GPU generations, translating internal needs into effective supplier strategies and commercial agreements.
  • Manage, via supplier business reviews, performance in technology alignment, cost, quality, delivery and implement supply chain improvements.
  • Conduct supplier negotiations including comprehensive agreements. Define cost drivers, developing cost models, and establishing should-cost analysis.
